So where are we going this month? If in February we delighted you with an international selection of metal (in its various branches), this time we focus everything on one country… the cities may vary: Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and Nagoya but you’ve already understood that once again our battleship drops anchor on Japan for yet another all-out-heavy-artillery THRASH assault… Thrash in its various meanings fluctuating from metal to punk: in fact in the all Japanese royal flush that we have brewed this time you’ll find a colossal hardcore classic, the debut full length of the legend that is Kyoto’s WARHEAD reaching its 30th anniversary edition, and also with HC references we’ve got VOIDD who even if at their origins (i.e. the material collected in the anthology that we’re about to introduce) were dedicated to the wildest death thrashin’ metal, over time they’ve taken a more punk and sometimes even psychobilly edge, and what to say about SABAZZ, a band backed by a stellar line-up that sees Hiko from GAUZE on drums and Tomio from JUNTESS and CROW on guitar, and HATE BEYOND with Warzy of the thrash-core psychos INZEST (remember their discography LP that we did few years back?) on guitar. HATE BEYOND that come as the only geographical exception because they’re not completely Japanese but trespass on three continents: French singer and drummer, guitarist from Osaka and American bassist (among other things of EXHORDER fame!). But at the end of the whole talk, this month’s highlight is a metal classic in a power/speed japanese way to thrash, another dream come true here at the F.O.A.D. headquarters: none other than ROSENFELD “Pigs of the empire”, for the first time on vinyl (and never reissued in general for almost 30 years) in a deluxe double LP version made with the utmost LOVE and dedication!!

To cut it short and get straight to the point: we decided to anticipate the release date of our monthly drop by a few days because February is shorter and for the next one we have 5 releases scheduled including two double LP’s, so we want to give them the right space with relative trailers and everything that you’ll see shortly. What to say instead about the batch that we’re about to announce as out now… we were worried about multiple factors, from the strange association that, despite being all inside Metal and its infinite branches, has an American speed metal classic of the 80s put together with a Danish band not far from that period but way more focused on a mittel-European evil thrash sounds, a Japanese Metal Punk horde of today and a newborn sadistic bestial metal combo still unfamiliar to many.

We were also upset by the fact that Mayhem Portland had already been unfairly re-released as a single LP (their “Burned alive” album) by another label a few months earlier without informing us about it.. (by the way you can check this video we prepared illustrating the complete futility of alternative or parallel editions to ours). Despite these factors, however, in the end we are happy to see once more that the feedback and support of those who are loyal to F.O.A.D. do not decline even when we’re facing somewhat anomalous months compared to usual, and for this our gratitude is inexhaustible. Looking back at the past 3 FOAD months there’s been quite a variety of genres, January was almost all focused on grindcore except for RxDxPx’s “Isentön päunokü” cover 10″, previous months we had Japanese and international hardcore, Yugo post punk, and before that manic noise/grind tornado with Sore Throat and Fear Of God.. We haven’t dwelt on a more old school metal-focused batch for a while, so here we are.. however, it must be said that even being more metal, we are on a rather atypical month because we range from the pioneering punkish speedmetal of the legendary Portland’s MAYHEM feat. Slayer hippie (RIP) of Poison Idea on drums to today’s metal punk in a Japanese key by MILITARY SHADOW to the infernal thrashing onslaught (in undoubted Teutonic influence) of the Danes MENTAL DECAY… to a brand new horde of chaos much sicker and black-tinged than the ones mentioned above, namely VOMIT VULVA..: a new promise in sadistic bestial metal from the meanders of the Bunker in Milan, a rehearsal studio dedicated to rituals of perversion and to the most visceral and irreverent sonic abominations.

This combination was partly an experiment and partly still dictated by a series of unforseen events such as the months of production deleted in 2021-22 ‘thanks’ to a pressing plant that caused us to accumulate delays from which we still suffer today, to management errors of our calendar due to people that fortunately are no longer obstacles for FOAD today. Note for example the fact that Mayhem 2LP’s catalog number is F.O.A.D. 238 and Vomit Vulva is F.O.A.D. 293 (!!)… there are very important reasons behind these happenings. Time has come for the first announcement of 2023, and as we told you, the intention is to start the year with a carpet bombing! For this reason we have chosen a truly mind-boggling selection of bands, each of which needs no long introduction – ranging from the most ferocious hardcore thrash (RATOS DE PORÂO covering Terveet Kädet and CRIPPLE BASTARDS at their most vandalistic punk oriented early phase) and taking everything to extremes with some classic deathly grind, this is the case of a longly awaited anthology of early works by DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and the second pressing of INSECT WARFARE‘s “Entomological siege”, a true classic and FOAD best seller which by popular demand, had to be available again.  So in a nutshell we have already told you everything, our cauldron of sickness for January consists of: DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA “Repulsive overtones?  1988-1989” 2xLP+CD and digipack 2xCD, RATOS DE PORÂO  “Isentön päunokü” 10″MLP, CRIPPLE BASTARDS  “From 1988 to 1991” 2xLP and INSECT WARFARE “Entomological siege 2004/2009” 2xCD+DVD boxset (2nd pressing).

We would like to point out that releases like Disharmonic Orchestra fully represent what was the starting intent of the label: we grew up listening to this stuff and it is part of our musical backbone, one of the basic ideas of when F.O.A.D. started focusing on vinyl works was about “releasing the music that we grew up with and that has meant something special to us through the years” and an anthology like this embodies that spirit to perfection. The planned out-now date for this hellish quartet is January 23rd, there may be slight delays on the two CD editions but as usual you know that you can rest easy with F.O.A.D. because we will do everything to ship as quickly as possible in order to leave you satisfied and keep up with our crazy monthly schedule! RxDxPx performing TERVEET KÄDET’s legendary 7″ ” Ääretön Joulu” (1982)!  One of the greatest singles in the history of hardcore punk masterfully reinterpreted in its entirety by Brazil’s stainless thrashcore kings.

An infamous collection of very early C.B. recordings (with the two piece line-up consisting of Alberto The Crippler on guitar/vocals and Giulio The Bastard on drums/vocals)..: 336 SONGS – ASTI NOISE-GRIND PUNK at its roughest stage. Official reissue of CB’s most circulated tape, originally released in 1992, finally consecrated on vinyl… an unbelievable bloodbath of lo-fi rawness going from the embryonic thrashing punk/grind days to the radical nihilism of the band’s noisecore phase. This tape was the roots of Italian grindcore and the link between the end of an era (the unforgettable furious years of Italy’s hardcore punk pioneers) and the beginning of a new one more based on noise and manic speed.  Ripped from pristine 1st generation sources and painstakingly remastered song by song at Toxic Basement Studio in 2022 to celebrate the 30th year anniversary since its first edition, this is hands down the best sounding version to date. Here we are, finally at the last post of 2022! This has undoubtedly been the most tiring and complicated year for us, with a lot of unexpected changes and perspectives opening up towards the future. And yet we came away with a fantastic result, 41 releases in 12 months (!!), breaking last year’s record! Quoting a friend from another label that recently visited us at the MegaRecord Fair in Den Bosch: “you guys are insane, you basically release one record a week”. In fact that’s right, almost every month of this year we’ve had at least 4-5 releases (mostly on vinyl), so it’s correct to say one x week.. And believe us, the balance of our modus operandi made up of announcement trailers, opening pre-orders and out now is very delicate because a small delay in a delivery from the pressing plant, a missing booklet or some unexpected event is enough to trigger us a nervous breakdown. However beyond this, we want to thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who believe and support our small independent label and have allowed us to get this far… we are about to reach F.O.A.D. 300!! It’s above all thanks to the help and passion of those who follow us that this gear keeps turning in an ever stronger and motivated way, and the enthusiasm of all of you that gives us the lifeblood to continue working tirelessly as hard as possible, hunting in the most remote corners of the world for the most hidden and rare recordings, and always having a schedule full of surprises and variety of genres. And it goes without saying that for 2023 we have a series of incredible smashers in the pipeline that we can’t wait to announce!

We have already shipped most of the pre-orders, the last batch will leave immediately after Christmas, please be patient – given the very busy period. Another obscure Japanese Hardcore gem from the past, rescued and brought back to life in a top quality edition.. It’s no secret that the FOAD team are totally crazy for Hokkaido area punk, you saw it with previous works such as Human Gas, Stali nism, Napalm, Chinpira, Shot Gun…  Hailing from Sapporo, Hokkaido, ACUTE are only known to diehard HC maniacs for their killer tracks on the hard to find “Nothing action nothing have” v.a. tape (1989). This anthology compiles their complete recordings 1986-1989 adding as bonus a CD with never-heard-before recordings from the “Nothing action, nothing have” release show at Bessie Hall, Sapporo where they shared the stage with legends such as Slang, F.U.P. and Satanic Hell Slaughter.  44 TRACKS showing the band’s evolution from their early distorted punk approach influenced by UK82 classics (Chaos UK, Disorder) to the shredding fast Japancore thrash assault of their latter phase. The return of this veteran metallic hardcore unit, detonatic ears with their thrash-fueled aggression since 1988! 10 songs, brand new studio recordings from 2022. One of the earliest Japanese HC bands to introduce crust elements in their sound combining them with a solid metal/punk edge… this new album, following their classic debut “The final solution…” (1989) recently reissued by FOAD Records and mid 90’s opus “Agonized cry” (more leaning towards Amebix/Antisect influences), keeps their banner high with viciously addictive riffs and vitriolic vocals that bring memories back to their early days. MRTVI KANAL / GRČ Split LP (F.O.A.D. 279)

“1983…: as Yugoslavia was slowly losing vital functions, its underground youth was never more creative and angry.”
Official reissue of this mythological split release originally published as a ltd. edition tape in 1983 on the cult label Galerija ŠKUC Izdaja (Laibach, Borghesia, Otroci Socializma etc.).. now for the first time on vinyl!! Two bands from the incredibly vital post-punk scene of Rijeka, one of the most intense and vital spots in the ‘80s ex-Yugoslavian underground. This release shows the slow and gloomy embryonic phase of Grč, currently celebrating their 40th year anniversary, paired with Mrtvi Kanal’s sensibilities on writing great melancholic, pop-infused post punk excellence. In the years to follow Grč consolidated their sinister fame with the incredible masterpiece “Sloboda narodu” (1987) – also reissued by FOAD years ago, one of the blackest and most hopeless expressions of negativity that whatever you may label as Dark, Death Rock or Post Punk has ever conceived… while Mrtvi Kanal recorded only a dozen of songs (the most included on this split) before they vanished in the mid 80ies. With a bitter approach towards themselves and the outside world, both bands captured the very essence of their contemporary times through the epic 12 songs included on this record, talking about freedom, desperation, hope and disappointment.  Taken from the original reels and mastered for vinyl at Toxic Basement Studio.  Includes a 12 page booklet with rare photos, flyers and scans of the 1983 tape. AUTARKIA “Gobiernate a ti mismo” LP (F.O.A.D. 276)

Rough, ultra-crude Mexican fuzzcore punks! Formed in the late ’80s in Mexico State, AUTARKIA were mostly active from 1990 to 1994 releasing 3 tapes, one of which would become their cult full length “Punk’s al slam”, later published on CD and LP. Here’s the official reissue of their debut demo 1993 originally entitled “Sociedad autosuficiente”, recorded prior to “Punk’s al slam”. For the first time on vinyl, mastered from the band’s tapes. Absurdly raw 2-chords tupa tupa hardcore in pure latino-american tradition, recommended if you also like M.E.L.I., MASACRE 68, KAGADA DE PERRO and similar. 16 TRACKS!  Includes full colored booklet with lyrics, rare photos and flyers.
