..and also for this year we’re at the final round with the last 5 releases… we haven’t yet counted how many FOAD titles saw the light in 2022, we’ll talk about it in the next post, but one thing is sure: it’s certainly much more than than we expected – an unbelievable achievement for us, also considering the immense problems we’ve been dealing with for months, such as a change of warehouses, a major split & renewal of our team and a lot more. To conclude such a crazy period in style we have chosen a very special year-end selection.. for the umpteenth time we explore Japan and by now you should all know that FOAD Records + Japanese Hardcore is a guarantee, this time we’ll reaffirm it with the tryptich ACUTE, EYESCREAM and ASBESTOS , then we move on to another country very dear to us.. Mexico with an ultra-rough band that will delight aficionados of the most filthy and disastrous fuzz-punk, we are talking about AUTARKIA.. and last but not least, we set up the time machine to our beloved former Yugoslavia, with the reissue of a legendary cassette that dates back to 1983 and covers a rather unusual territory for those familiar with our label’s sounds: we’re entering a post punk area with dark/industrial rock hues, with the fantastic split between MRTVI KANAL and GRČ. Different and distant countries, genres and eras quite far from each other, but basically an important point in common: they’re all bands that we really love, they are part of our daily playlists, and therefore we are pleased to have them in our roster.

So to sum it all up, this month’s 5 vinyl outrages are:  ACUTE “Who wants war – Discography 1986-1989” 2xLP+CD, EYESCREAM “The end – Complete discography” LP,  ASBESTOS “Loud Noise Infection” LP, MRTVI KANAL / GRČ Split LP and AUTARKIA “Gobiernate a ti mismo” LP.  Please note: the scheduled release date is December 20th and as always we’ll try to be as quick as possible to ship everything before Xmas chaos breaks in, however, due to year-end postal slowdowns and congestion and the fact that we’re still missing a few inserts and booklets (that should be ready soon anyway), delivery times are unpredictable, so please be patient – don’t flood us with messages and everything will be set right. As usual we strongly recommend you to act fast if you want to catch the ltd. colored vinyl versions, they won’t last for long!

More in detail:

ACUTE “Who wants war – Discography 1986-1989” 2xLP+CD (F.O.A.D. 277)

Another obscure Japanese Hardcore gem from the past, rescued and brought back to life in a top quality edition.. It’s no secret that the FOAD team are totally crazy for Hokkaido area punk, you saw it with previous works such as Human Gas, Stali nism, Napalm, Chinpira, Shot Gun…  Hailing from Sapporo, Hokkaido, ACUTE are only known to diehard HC maniacs for their killer tracks on the hard to find “Nothing action nothing have” v.a. tape (1989). This anthology compiles their complete recordings 1986-1989 adding as bonus a CD with never-heard-before recordings from the “Nothing action, nothing have” release show at Bessie Hall, Sapporo where they shared the stage with legends such as Slang, F.U.P. and Satanic Hell Slaughter.  44 TRACKS showing the band’s evolution from their early distorted punk approach influenced by UK82 classics (Chaos UK, Disorder) to the shredding fast Japancore thrash assault of their latter phase. Freshly ripped from the band’s tapes and mastered for vinyl at Toxic Basement Studio. Gatefold jacket + two booklets (total 24 pages) including flyers, photos, lyrics as well as all the original artworks and leaflets showing their strong anti-war stance and socially engaged hardcore attitude.  Watch the trailer HERE

One of the earliest Japanese HC bands to introduce crust elements in their sound combining them with a solid metal/punk edge… this new album, following their classic debut “The final solution…” (1989) recently reissued by FOAD Records and mid 90’s opus “Agonized cry” (more leaning towards Amebix/Antisect influences), keeps their banner high with viciously addictive riffs and vitriolic vocals that bring memories back to their early days. The band features Noboru “Jero” Sakuma of Abigail/Gorgon on 4-string artillery.  LP with OBI strip and insert. Watch the trailer HERE

MRTVI KANAL / GRČ Split LP (F.O.A.D. 279)

“1983…: as Yugoslavia was slowly losing vital functions, its underground youth was never more creative and angry.”
Official reissue of this mythological split release originally published as a ltd. edition tape in 1983 on the cult label Galerija ŠKUC Izdaja (Laibach, Borghesia, Otroci Socializma etc.).. now for the first time on vinyl!! Two bands from the incredibly vital post-punk scene of Rijeka, one of the most intense and vital spots in the ‘80s ex-Yugoslavian underground. This release shows the slow and gloomy embryonic phase of Grč, currently celebrating their 40th year anniversary, paired with Mrtvi Kanal’s sensibilities on writing great melancholic, pop-infused post punk excellence. In the years to follow Grč consolidated their sinister fame with the incredible masterpiece “Sloboda narodu” (1987) – also reissued by FOAD years ago, one of the blackest and most hopeless expressions of negativity that whatever you may label as Dark, Death Rock or Post Punk has ever conceived… while Mrtvi Kanal recorded only a dozen of songs (the most included on this split) before they vanished in the mid 80ies. With a bitter approach towards themselves and the outside world, both bands captured the very essence of their contemporary times through the epic 12 songs included on this record, talking about freedom, desperation, hope and disappointment.  Taken from the original reels and mastered for vinyl at Toxic Basement Studio.  Includes a 12 page booklet with rare photos, flyers and scans of the 1983 tape. Made thanks to the friendly assistance of Dallas Records (Slovenia) and archival/editorial supervision from Guranje s litice (Croatia). Watch the trailer HERE

Available in the following versions:

Solid black vinyl limited to 350 copies

Diehard clear yellow vinyl limited to 150 copies

AUTARKIA “Gobiernate a ti mismo” LP (F.O.A.D. 276)

Rough, ultra-crude Mexican fuzzcore punks! Formed in the late ’80s in Mexico State, AUTARKIA were mostly active from 1990 to 1994 releasing 3 tapes, one of which would become their cult full length “Punk’s al slam”, later published on CD and LP. Here’s the official reissue of their debut demo 1993 originally entitled “Sociedad autosuficiente”, recorded prior to “Punk’s al slam”. For the first time on vinyl, mastered from the band’s tapes. Absurdly raw 2-chords tupa tupa hardcore in pure latino-american tradition, recommended if you also like M.E.L.I., MASACRE 68, KAGADA DE PERRO and similar. 16 TRACKS!  Includes full colored booklet with lyrics, rare photos and flyers. Made in collaboration with Mierdas Production from Mexico. Watch the trailer HERE

Peak brutality – still unmatched.   “This 21-track EP is essential in whatever form you stumble across it. The short-lived (1986-1988), much hyped and oft-bootlegged Swiss outfit, as enigmatic and distant as the cold, dissonant bursts imprisoned on this EP, blended early Napalm Death, Swans and something indescribable of their own to create an achingly raw and wordless primal scream” (Terrorizer Mag, UK – “Essential Grindcore albums – Europe”).  Since the original vinyl press was on clear wax, this cassette is clear too, and it comes with a foldout 4 panel jcard printed on both sides with lyrics and original art. Watch the trailer HERE

After two months entirely dedicated to Metal in its variety of forms, going from the death-tinged assault of Expulsion, Crematorium and Crucifixion, to the thrash artillery of Morbid Scream and Death Militia to the most classic metal of Death SS, it’s time to turn the page pushing to the limits of extremity and return to a well-tested FOAD ground, with a month all focused on the most nihilistic and brutal grind/noisecore. For some it’ll be a surprise to see that on this round we have 3 new albums of current times: as previously explained, after all F.O.A.D. is not a reissue-only label, it was simply founded with the formula of releasing whatever we like, so the doors are also open to more recent bands and contemporary recordings. That said, our roster for this month consists of a band already well known to those familiar with our history: SORE THROAT, of which we are honored to introduce the new “Starving wolves stand & fight” 12″ and an expanded reissue of their classic “Never mind the napalm” LP, then we have KANDARIVAS from Japan and their “Blood surgical death” LP, combining elements of the most furious grindcore with experimental/tribal parts inspired by the tradition of their area, then it’s the turn of PUTREFACTION SETS IN and their debut ripper “Repugnant inception of decomposing paroxysm”, a new spearhead in the international gore grind scene – with members of Regurgitate, General Surgery, Lymphatic Phlegm, Expurgo etc and at least but not last another classic unit with a long history of releases on FOAD: FEAR OF GOD and their legendary 21 song EP (1988) for the first time on cassette tape.

So to sum it all up: SORE THROAT “Starving wolves stand & fight” LP and “Never mind the napalm” LP, KANDARIVAS “Blood surgical death” LP , PUTREFACTION SETS IN “Repugnant inception of decomposing paroxysm” LP and FEAR OF GOD “s/t 21 songs EP” Tape are all available for preorder. As usual we strongly recommend to act fast if you don’t want to miss out on the limited colored vinyl versions, they will surely finish quickly. And to top it off, we will have a preview of these new titles at the Record Planet Mega Record Fair at the Brabanthallen in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands on November 12th & 13th, so if you’re planning to visit the fair you can pick them up there, come to visit us at stall nr 128 in the Metal/Punk area.

After the avalanche of FOAD releases with which we used to bomb your turntables monthly, as you can see we’ve been forced to stop for a while and keep September off, this because there have been some important internal changes in the label’s staff and due to this we had to move and reorganize one of our warehouses and sort out tons of extra issues. It is undeniable that it was one of the most complicated and critical phases in the label’s history, but now we’re ready to get back on track stronger than ever.. the right words to introduce you this month are: BACK WITH A CURSE!!  We’re honored to announce our return to vinyl production with 3 wicked deliveries – all of them on the metal side of the FOAD underground excursions. Posted in Death Militia, Expulsion, Morbid Scream, Oblivion, Releases on August 21st, 2022 by foadmaster2022

Without the slightest doubt this has been the most messed up and exhausting summer in the history of FOAD Records: from June to now we have put out 14 releases (!!!), resumed traveling with our huge mobile shop/booth attending those festivals where it has always been a sort of tradition for us to go and just to add a little more stress, at the moment we’re also moving one of our two warehouses to a new location! For all these reasons together, it will be very difficult that we’ll be able to deliver new sonic crimes also in September, the chances are very few, but we’re not beat yet, so keep an eye out.  Anyway let’s get back to something closer to now: our 4x August releases are all ready, in perfect timing with what was announced and almost all your pre-orders have already been shipped, expect to receive them soon!

In short: MORBID SCREAM “Bloodstains: 941 Longhorn Drive – The Morbid Scream Demos” 2xLP, EXPULSION “Certain corpses never decay – 1989-1990” 2xLP, DEATH MILITIA “Onslaught of death – Demo & live 1985” LP+CD and OBLIVION “Intention to kill – Demos & rarities 1985” LP+CD are out today on FOAD Records. There aren’t many copies left of the ltd. editions on colored vinyl (Morbid Scream and Death Militia being the best sellers) so we strongly suggest you to act fast if you haven’t yet secured them to your collection.

More in detail on each of them:

MORBID SCREAM “Bloodstains: 941 Longhorn Drive – The Morbid Scream Demos” 2xLP  (F.O.A.D. 235)

TEXAS THRASH MASSACRE!!  After being in the works for years, here’s finally the MORBID SCREAM complete discography 1987-1990 for the first time on vinyl, collecting all their existing recordings…:
– Demo I (1987) / Demo II (1988) / – Demo III (1990) / – Live in Arlington, Dallas and Fort Worth 1987-1988
A ballistic assault of pioneering Texan Thrash, combining mid paced, hard moshing parts with neck-breaking accelerations, abrasive vocals and stomping riffs. One of the many hidden gems from the boundless underground pit of obscure recordings and rare demos to be discovered and appreciated. Even if for a long time they didn’t get the deserved recognition, MORBID SCREAM left an important mark in the 80’s American Thrash scene, so much that they have been tributed by the mighty ABSU, that covered “The Coming of War” and “Morbid Scream” on “The Sun of Tiphareth” and “The Third Storm of Cythraul” albums respectively. Sourced and mastered from the band’s 1st generation tapes. Includes a massive 48 PAGE BOOKLET with liner notes, interviews, loads of band photos, flyers, original art and more!!  Watch the trailer HERE

EXPULSION “Certain corpses never decay – Complete recordings 1989-1990” 2xLP (F.O.A.D. 215)

Early Swedish Death Metal malignity at its finest! Expulsion started in November 1988 with Calle Fransson on drums, Anders Holmberg on bass and Stefan Lagergren on guitars. Actually the band was formed out of the ashes of a band called River’s Edge, that consisted of the three Expulsion members, Magnus Kranz on guitar and Johan Edlund (TIAMAT) on vocals. After the “Mind the Edge” demo the band felt apart. In April 1989, Expulsion released their first demo called “Cerebral Cessation”. November that year they recorded their second demo “Veiled in the mists of mystery”. The previously unreleased track “Certain corpses never decay” was released on the underground compilation tape “Hymns of the  Dead vol.2”. In 1990 Expulsion entered Sunlight Studios (Entombed Dismember, Tiamat etc.), to record two tracks produced by Tomas Skogsberg. After these recordings Expulsion broke up (and reformed with two new members 2 years later). Expulsion guitar player Stefan and bassist Anders both also played in Treblinka / Tiamat. They recorded and played (and Stefan Lagergren wrote) all the Treblinka demos/EP and the TIAMAT debut album “Sumerian Cry” (1990). This collection includes all the above mentioned demos, the rare comp. track and the Sunlight Studio session. All these recordings are being released for the first time on vinyl, completely restored and remastered. Coverart by Eric Danielsson (WATAIN). Gatefold jacket with photos, scans of the original tapes, an exclusive interview + large poster!  A must have for the diehard maniacs of pioneering Swedish Death Metal, highly recommended if you also like Treblinka/early Tiamat, Morbid, Nihilist and Grotesque. Quoting Chris Bailey (Infernal Majesty):  “What I remember about seeing Death Militia was a lot of broken glass and a lot of blood. And I’ll never forget the cow skull they had on stage with them”.
Sourced from the band’s tapes and specially mastered for vinyl for the most destructive sonic impact. Intense, abrasive thrash from one of the earliest bands from the insane mid 80’s Toronto scene that also spawned legends such as Razor, Sacrifice, Slaughter, Infernal Majesty and many more!
