Were you hoping that we would go on vacation in August avoiding to torment you with yet another dose of FOAD thrashing bombarments? No way! And if in July we attacked you with a plethora of incendiary hardcore bombs – to counterbalance things in pure FOAD style, now it’s time to shoot some obscure ’80s metal gems. Two of the releases we are about to announce have been pending for more than a year due to a dispute with a local pressing plant that kept delaying them without giving us a delivery date, until we decided to take them out of production and send them to be pressed elsewhere. This is one of the main reasons that caused a domino-effect that has overloaded and congested us in the last few months.. but in the end we’re getting used to it and so why slow down this mad race.. let’s thrash!

So our recipe for August is all centered on ’80s speed/thrash with two US bands + one from Canada, and there’s also a seminal Scandinavian black/death horde finally getting the deserved vinyl treatment. We’re talking of Texas’ thrashers MORBID SCREAM and their complete discography entitled “Bloodstains: 941 Longhorn Drive – The Morbid Scream Demos” 2xLP, EXPULSION from Sweden with an exhaustive retrospective of their early works:  “Certain corpses never decay – Complete recordings 1989-1990”, Canada’s speed thrashing maniacs DEATH MILITIA with “Onslaught of death – Demo & live 1985” LP+CD (their rare debut demo spiced up by plenty of bonus stuff from the same year) and New Jersey’s OBLIVION with a collection of all their amazing 1985 recordings called “Intention to kill – Demos & rarities 1985” LP+CD, highly energetic thrash/speed metal with a solid hardcore backbone. A ballistic assault of pioneering Texan Thrash, combining mid paced, hard moshing parts with neck-breaking accelerations, abrasive vocals and stomping riffs. EXPULSION “Certain corpses never decay – Complete recordings 1989-1990” 2xLP (F.O.A.D. 215)

Early Swedish Death Metal malignity at its finest! Expulsion started in November 1988 with Calle Fransson on drums, Anders Holmberg on bass and Stefan Lagergren on guitars. Actually the band was formed out of the ashes of a band called River’s Edge, that consisted of the three Expulsion members, Magnus Kranz on guitar and Johan Edlund (TIAMAT) on vocals. After the “Mind the Edge” demo the band felt apart. In April 1989, Expulsion released their first demo called “Cerebral Cessation”. November that year they recorded their second demo “Veiled in the mists of mystery”. The previously unreleased track “Certain corpses never decay” was released on the underground compilation tape “Hymns of the  Dead vol.2”. In 1990 Expulsion entered Sunlight Studios (Entombed Dismember, Tiamat etc.), to record two tracks produced by Tomas Skogsberg. After these recordings Expulsion broke up (and reformed with two new members 2 years later). Expulsion guitar player Stefan and bassist Anders both also played in Treblinka / Tiamat. They recorded and played (and Stefan Lagergren wrote) all the Treblinka demos/EP and the TIAMAT debut album “Sumerian Cry” (1990). This collection includes all the above mentioned demos, the rare comp. track and the Sunlight Studio session. All these recordings are being released for the first time on vinyl, completely restored and remastered. Coverart by Eric Danielsson (WATAIN). Official reissue of RP’s iconic 4th album from 1989 adding as bonus LP the incredible lost&found 1st studio take (12 TRACKS!) recorded in Italy still with Helder on drums, available for the first time on vinyl! Another uppercut in the jaws showing RP at the top of the game crossovering their manic riff-oriented Hardcore with the most intense and raging Thrash assault. Together with the incredible masterpiece “Screams from the gutter” this is hands down the fastest and tightest delivery in the band’s discography of the first decade. As for all their previous releases on F.O.A.D., this has been scrupulously remastered from the 1st generation master at Toxic Basement studio, taking the original dynamics and sonic impact to the most powerful and energetic stage. As explained by the band: “RAW POWER began the recording of “Mine to kill” in Italy, at Umbi Studio, and when it came to an end there were discussions about the final product. The decision to re-record the album in England with a different producer saw Helder leave, the one most satisfied with the work they had just ended, and having already had a brief live experience with the other boys, Fabiano Bianco (Bloody Riot / Raff) replaced him on drums. The fourth album came out and the previous version was trashed. The bonus LP added to this version was what would have been “Mine to kill” at the beginning, feeling like the first real attempt to change the style and understanding even more how the personalities within Raw Power differed between them, something that has always characterized the band from any other reality”. Of those 12 tracks, 4 are completely unreleased as they haven’t been re-recorded on the final version of the album, and they simply kill! A mysterious and totally undiscovered jewel of 80’s Japanese Metal from the Hokuriku area only known in the most diehard circles of tape-trading maniacs. This “Demo 1986” collection is all focused on their early recordings, blending a NWOBHM influenced approach with some serious Sortilège worship and a speed metal touch. SACRILEGIO “Podredumbre 1986-1988” LP (F.O.A.D. 242)

…another sonic bestiality forged in the violent streets of MedellIn, Colombia in the 80’s!! Formed in 1984 by vocalist Carlos Mario Montoya “El vikingo” (also member of NEKROMANTIE) who was assassinated in 1988, SACRILEGIO were undoubtedly one of the most important names in the early Ultra Metal scene of the Antioquian region. Quoting the biography included in this anthology: “They were influenced by Metal/Hardcore classics of the time, such as PARABELLUM, HELLHAMMER, SLAYER and SNOBB SLAKT (Swedish Hardcore)“. This gives a better idea of their style, a primitive and rough crossover of early day death/thrash with a touch of 80’s hardcore in the crudest form. In the works for more than 4 years, “Podredumbre 1986-1988” is the most exhaustive collection of all their existing recordings, assembled under supervision of the band’s late guitarist Antonio Guerrero (also founder of Agressor and Masacre).  10 songs consisting of: audition session for “Rodrigo D. No futuro” and demo 1986-1987, final recording for the soundtrack of “Rodrigo D. No futuro” (1988), live at Acción Comunal del barrio Alfonso López Castilla, 1987. As explained by the band, SACRILEGIO‘s anthem “Podredumbre” was only included in the soundtrack of the movie “Rodrigo D.” but not on the 1990’s compilation LP featuring most of the bands that were invited to take part to that project. This LP also includes a 12 page booklet full of never seen before photos, flyers and an interesting biography written with the help of Antonio Guerrero. After reissuing Colombian underground milestones such as Blasfemia, Restos De Tragedia and the iconic “Estamos en la sima” compilation, F.O.A.D. is back to digging into the obscure roots of the legendary Ultra Metal scene born in Medellín in the mid ’80s. This time it’s the turn of AGRESSOR, a pioneering, extremely raw unit delivering the ugly, barbaric sounds that were peculiar to that area and were portraying a nightmarish reality of crimes, drugs and misery. No long introductions this time because we have no less than 5 releases (!!) to announce and therefore we prefer to give space to detailed descriptions of each. As many of you know, it’s in the multifaceted spirit of F.O.A.D. Records to cover a wide range of different genres, still staying within strictly underground territories. You got the month all dedicated to noisecore, the one all centered on death metal, the one all about Japanese hardcore… to the last round – mostly dedicated to 80’s American hardcore. This month’s choice is peculiar: we decided to put together the reissues of 3 rare Japanese heavy metal demos all to be discovered (ALKALOID and two separated recordings by HELL BOUND) and 2 seminal bands that pioneered the so called “ultra metal” scene of Medellin, Colombia (AGRESSOR and SACRILEGIO). If you’re wondering what “Ultra Metal” means: well, it’s a savage assault of the rawest death/thrash backed by a true hardcore spirit and raised in a social background of violence and desperation. Two countries very far from each other but with one point in common: when it comes to metal and punk they never disappoint, in terms of intensity, originality and attitude they are a totally unique world apart that still hides an infinity of gems to be unearthed and brought to light with passion and dedication.

FATAL VISION “Zeitgeist” LP (F.O.A.D. 258)

2nd chapter in F.O.A.D.‘s mission to reissue the entire Unsound Music catalog on vinyl (Insanity Defense being the first). Another hidden gem of fast and furious Long Island, NY Hardcore with a sound in the vein of the early Touch & Go bands. “What happens when you take a Brit punk and an American punk, put them together in a studio… what do you get? A row? No! You get FATAL VISION” (Jeff Earing). This mysterious short-lived band, created by Ric Clarke and Jeff Earing (Insanity Defense, Satans Cheerleaders, etc) made a cassette of full throttle raging hardcore that mixes elements of punk from both sides of the pond. 12 songs of mosh pit madness, led by singer Pete Coffey. This recording from 1983 was never released in its entirety… until now! Sourced from the band’s mastertape and specially mastered for vinyl at Toxic Basement Studio.
