As widely announced, it was all about Japanese THRASH in its various facets – from the whirwlind hardcore fury of WARHEAD to the speed metal infused excellence of the mighty ROSENFELD, to the raw death oriented assault of VOIDD.  To cut short and get to the point:  ROSENFELD “Pigs of the empire” Gatefold 2xLP, WARHEAD “この想いを何処へ…” LP, SABAZZ “The intolerable absence of evil” LP, VOIDD “Final black fate – complete recordings 1990/1992” 2xLP+CD and HATE BEYOND “Strangled existence” LP are all out now on F.O.A.D. Most preorders have already been shipped, the last batch is going to be sent this week. Death thrashin’ bloodshed in its most ruthless form! Originally spawned in Nagoya in 1989, VOIDD started their path delivering an aggressive clash of old school death metal and brutal thrashcore. The band later changed to a different musical direction, the material collected here shows their raw and aggressive roots. So where are we going this month? If in February we delighted you with an international selection of metal (in its various branches), this time we focus everything on one country… the cities may vary: Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and Nagoya but you’ve already understood that once again our battleship drops anchor on Japan for yet another all-out-heavy-artillery THRASH assault… Thrash in its various meanings fluctuating from metal to punk: in fact in the all Japanese royal flush that we have brewed this time you’ll find a colossal hardcore classic, the debut full length of the legend that is Kyoto’s WARHEAD reaching its 30th anniversary edition, and also with HC references we’ve got VOIDD who even if at their origins (i.e. the material collected in the anthology that we’re about to introduce) were dedicated to the wildest death thrashin’ metal, over time they’ve taken a more punk and sometimes even psychobilly edge, and what to say about SABAZZ, a band backed by a stellar line-up that sees Hiko from GAUZE on drums and Tomio from JUNTESS and CROW on guitar, and HATE BEYOND with Warzy of the thrash-core psychos INZEST (remember their discography LP that we did few years back?) on guitar. HATE BEYOND that come as the only geographical exception because they’re not completely Japanese but trespass on three continents: French singer and drummer, guitarist from Osaka and American bassist (among other things of EXHORDER fame!). But at the end of the whole talk, this month’s highlight is a metal classic in a power/speed japanese way to thrash, another dream come true here at the F.O.A.D. headquarters: none other than ROSENFELD “Pigs of the empire”, for the first time on vinyl (and never reissued in general for almost 30 years) in a deluxe double LP version made with the utmost LOVE and dedication!!

As previously announced, our schedule for this month consists of 4 releases from the land of the Rising Sun: the most awaited one, BORIS “No” LP + flexi was sold out on preorder in less than 24 hours! Of the other three – ROSENFELD “Demo 1991” (2nd edition) LP, SARUSHIBAI / MANBIKI CHOCOLATE Split LP and MILITARY SHADOW “Violent reign” LP – the diehard colored vinyl versions are all gone, we still have very few copies left of the black ones (all of them on 180 gram vinyl) so we strongly suggest you to act fast if you have not yet secured them to your collection! A crucial Japanese Hardcore Punk clash!! PLAZMA-X “White shadow 1986-1989” LP (F.O.A.D. 221)

Founded in Hiroshima in 1984, PLAZMA-X was a Speed / Heavy Metal band with a solid Punk background, their earlier incarnation known as Toxoplasma (then Plasma X to Plazma X) was included on the legendary “Hiroshima Street Punx 1” compilation tape. Former members were also involved in cult Japanese Hardcore acts such as CHICKEN BOWELS, GUDON, OUTO, HALF YEARS, RISE FROM THE DEAD and 自我… in few words, this is the roots of HP Metal/Punk!

MNK PROJECT “Mousouzoku” LP+CD (F.O.A.D. 191)

Founded in 1983 on the ashes of GODDESS (featured on the mythological “ADK Omnibus vol. 1” compilation) this shortly lived all-female trio embodied the unique sound of ADK-era bands combining the true core of early ’80s Japanese Punk nihilism with influences from other genres, creating a dark, nervous style all of their own. Complete discography including the impossible to find 7″ (1985, ltd. to 300 copies most of which were trashed after they disbanded, less than 100 survived and were handed to friends) plus a completely unreleased studio session from the same time ending with a melancholic, pop-infused track that is an instant classic!

Sourced from the master reels, produced by Juntaro Yamanouchi (The GEROGERIGEGEGE).  Foldout insert with lyrics and band photos/flyers. We closed 2020 with 30 x F.O.A.D. releases in the books and we’re already back here to start the new year with the engines at full power! At this point it goes without saying that when F.O.A.D. has a month entirely centered on Japan, the party is guaranteed… and what we’re about to announce is exactly that case, BUT if for years we have bombed you with traditional Japancore or even Grind / Noisecore from the Land of the Rising Sun, this time we’re exploring different musical sectors, yet keeping things at explosive levels of intensity. Therefore our recipe for this ride of F.O.A.D. vinyl threats consists of two Heavy/Speed Metal bands – one of them being no other than Osaka’s Power / Thrash giants ROSENFELD (for the very first time on vinyl), then PLAZMA-X, a pioneering Hiroshima based Heavy/Speed unit formed by members of well known local HC legends – to switch to something completely different: our 3rd offering is a dark, at times new-waveish ADK styled all-female Punk trio, MNK PROJECT, a very obscure combo of ex-Goddess members whose name has been kept secret for over 3 decades and came to light just in recent times thanks to the incredible support and enthusiasm of our friend Juntaro Yamanouchi of Gerogerigegege fame.

Make sure to check it out, a full LP of extremely rare studio recordings from 1985 that could have fit perfectly in that unique world of gloomy and mysterious sounds that was the ADK Records discography. Also important to mention is that in 35 years of existence this is their first ever vinyl release, not even a single track of theirs has been pressed on vinyl up to now. A good reason for giving it a top quality F.O.A.D. treatment… taken from the band’s mastertape and delivered on 180 gram vinyl for the best sonic impact, you know what to expect.

PLAZMA-X “White shadow 1986-1989” LP (F.O.A.D. 221)

Founded in Hiroshima in 1984, PLAZMA-X was a Speed / Heavy Metal band with a solid Punk background, their earlier incarnation known as Toxoplasma (then Plasma X to Plazma X) was included on the legendary “Hiroshima Street Punx 1” compilation tape. Former members were also involved in cult Japanese Hardcore acts such as CHICKEN BOWELS, GUDON, OUTO, HALF YEARS, RISE FROM THE DEAD and 自我… in few words, this is the roots of HP Metal/Punk!

MNK PROJECT “Mousouzoku” LP+CD (F.O.A.D. 191)

Founded in 1983 on the ashes of GODDESS (featured on the mythological “ADK Omnibus vol. 1” compilation) this shortly lived all-female trio embodied the unique sound of ADK-era bands combining the true core of early ’80s Japanese Punk nihilism with influences from other genres, creating a dark, nervous style all of their own. Complete discography including the impossible to find 7″ (1985, ltd. to 300 copies most of which were trashed after they disbanded, less than 100 survived and were handed to friends) plus a completely unreleased studio session from the same time ending with a melancholic, pop-infused track that is an instant classic!
