Posted in Mayhem, Mental Decay, Military Shadow, Releases, Vomit Vulva on February 5th, 2023 by foadmaster2022

Looking back at the past 3 FOAD months there’s been quite a variety of genres, January was almost all focused on grindcore except for RxDxPx’s “Isentön päunokü” cover 10″, previous months we had Japanese and international hardcore, Yugo post punk, and before that manic noise/grind tornado with Sore Throat and Fear Of God.. We haven’t dwelt on a more old school metal-focused batch for a while, so here we are.. however, it must be said that even being more metal, we are on a rather atypical month because we range from the pioneering punkish speedmetal of the legendary Portland’s MAYHEM feat. Slayer hippie (RIP) of Poison Idea on drums to today’s metal punk in a Japanese key by MILITARY SHADOW to the infernal thrashing onslaught (in undoubted Teutonic influence) of the Danes MENTAL DECAY… to a brand new horde of chaos much sicker and black-tinged than the ones mentioned above, namely VOMIT VULVA..: a new promise in sadistic bestial metal from the meanders of the Bunker in Milan, a rehearsal studio dedicated to rituals of perversion and to the most visceral and irreverent sonic abominations.

This combination was partly an experiment and partly still dictated by a series of unforseen events such as the months of production deleted in 2021-22 ‘thanks’ to a pressing plant that caused us to accumulate delays from which we still suffer today, to management errors of our calendar due to people that fortunately are no longer obstacles for FOAD today. Note for example the fact that Mayhem 2LP’s catalog number is F.O.A.D. 238 and Vomit Vulva is F.O.A.D. 293 (!!)… there are very important reasons behind these happenings. However, what matters is that once again we are ready to drop 4 new bombs – all extremely interesting, varied and made with the utmost passion and commitment.  Our recipe for February consists of: MAYHEM “As the world burns – Complete recordings 1984/1987” Gatefold 2xLP, MENTAL DECAY “The final scar – discography 1987/1988” LP+CD, MILITARY SHADOW “Metal Punk Ironfist” LP and VOMIT VULVA s/t LP!!  The official out now date is set on February 20th and as usual we’ll do our best to be perfectly in time with our schedule. We’ll never fail to remind you that some of these releases are quite limited and we expect the diehard versions to go quickly, so you know what to do!

And below more detailed descriptions on each of them:

Another crucial underground metal gem rescued and unearthed in a top quality edition, all the existing recordings of this devastating unit from Hvidovre, Denmark, whose only demotape (1987) has been revered for decades as a well kept secret of genuine and furious Death/Thrash viciously recalling the Teutonic school, among all Kreator on their first two albums but also Darkness and Exumer to mention those that first come to mind listening to their merciless assault – they’ve also been often quoted by Fenriz/Darkthrone as one of the fundamental demo bands from that era. Some MD members later formed the more Heavy Metal oriented Missing Link with Artillery’s guitarists Michael and Mortem Stützer.  This killer set includes: LP with Demo 1987 (mastered from the 1/4″ reels), rehearsals 1987/1988 + Bonus CD with soundboard live 1987/1988 and extra rehearsals 1987/1988 + 16 PAGE BOOKLET with rare photos, scans of the demotape, fanzine excerpts and more!  Almost 2 hours of rabid, corrosive THRASH! Time has come for the first announcement of 2023, and as we told you, the intention is to start the year with a carpet bombing! For this reason we have chosen a truly mind-boggling selection of bands, each of which needs no long introduction – ranging from the most ferocious hardcore thrash (RATOS DE PORÂO covering Terveet Kädet and CRIPPLE BASTARDS at their most vandalistic punk oriented early phase) and taking everything to extremes with some classic deathly grind, this is the case of a longly awaited anthology of early works by DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and the second pressing of INSECT WARFARE‘s “Entomological siege”, a true classic and FOAD best seller which by popular demand, had to be available again.  So in a nutshell we have already told you everything, our cauldron of sickness for January consists of: DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA “Repulsive overtones?  1988-1989” 2xLP+CD and digipack 2xCD, RATOS DE PORÂO  “Isentön päunokü” 10″MLP, CRIPPLE BASTARDS  “From 1988 to 1991” 2xLP and INSECT WARFARE “Entomological siege 2004/2009” 2xCD+DVD boxset (2nd pressing).

We would like to point out that releases like Disharmonic Orchestra fully represent what was the starting intent of the label: we grew up listening to this stuff and it is part of our musical backbone, one of the basic ideas of when F.O.A.D. started focusing on vinyl works was about “releasing the music that we grew up with and that has meant something special to us through the years” and an anthology like this embodies that spirit to perfectionThe planned out-now date for this hellish quartet is January 23rd, there may be slight delays on the two CD editions but as usual you know that you can rest easy with F.O.A.D. because we will do everything to ship as quickly as possible in order to leave you satisfied and keep up with our crazy monthly schedule! As usual, and we’ll never get tired of saying it, don’t sleep on the diehard editions because they will run out quickly, if you look at last month’s batch, 4 out of 5 are all gone.

Here we are, finally at the last post of 2022! This has undoubtedly been the most tiring and complicated year for us, with a lot of unexpected changes and perspectives opening up towards the future. And yet we came away with a fantastic result, 41 releases in 12 months (!!), breaking last year’s record! Quoting a friend from another label that recently visited us at the MegaRecord Fair in Den Bosch: “you guys are insane, you basically release one record a week”. In fact that’s right, almost every month of this year we’ve had at least 4-5 releases (mostly on vinyl), so it’s correct to say one x week.. And believe us, the balance of our modus operandi made up of announcement trailers, opening pre-orders and out now is very delicate because a small delay in a delivery from the pressing plant, a missing booklet or some unexpected event is enough to trigger us a nervous breakdown. However beyond this, we want to thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who believe and support our small independent label and have allowed us to get this far… we are about to reach F.O.A.D. 300!! It’s above all thanks to the help and passion of those who follow us that this gear keeps turning in an ever stronger and motivated way, and the enthusiasm of all of you that gives us the lifeblood to continue working tirelessly as hard as possible, hunting in the most remote corners of the world for the most hidden and rare recordings, and always having a schedule full of surprises and variety of genres. And it goes without saying that for 2023 we have a series of incredible smashers in the pipeline that we can’t wait to announce!

This said, back to now:  5 x December releases – ACUTE “Who wants war – Discography 1986-1989” 2xLP+CD, EYESCREAM “The end – Complete discography” LP, ASBESTOS “Loud Noise Infection” LP, MRTVI KANAL / GRČ Split LP and AUTARKIA “Gobiernate a ti mismo” LP are all out now. We have already shipped most of the pre-orders, the last batch will leave immediately after Christmas, please be patient – given the very busy period. The diehard editions of ACUTE, ASBESTOS, EYESCREAM, MRTVI KANAL / GRČ split LP are all sold out on preorder, there are quite a few black ones left too, so don’t sleep on them!

The return of this veteran metallic hardcore unit, detonatic ears with their thrash-fueled aggression since 1988! 10 songs, brand new studio recordings from 2022. One of the earliest Japanese HC bands to introduce crust elements in their sound combining them with a solid metal/punk edge… this new album, following their classic debut “The final solution…” (1989) recently reissued by FOAD Records and mid 90’s opus “Agonized cry” (more leaning towards Amebix/Antisect influences), keeps their banner high with viciously addictive riffs and vitriolic vocals that bring memories back to their early days. The band features Noboru “Jero” Sakuma of Abigail/Gorgon on 4-string artillery.  LP with OBI strip and insert. Watch the trailer HERE

MRTVI KANAL / GRČ Split LP (F.O.A.D. 279)

“1983…: as Yugoslavia was slowly losing vital functions, its underground youth was never more creative and angry.”
Official reissue of this mythological split release originally published as a ltd. edition tape in 1983 on the cult label Galerija ŠKUC Izdaja (Laibach, Borghesia, Otroci Socializma etc.).. now for the first time on vinyl!! Two bands from the incredibly vital post-punk scene of Rijeka, one of the most intense and vital spots in the ‘80s ex-Yugoslavian underground. This release shows the slow and gloomy embryonic phase of Grč, currently celebrating their 40th year anniversary, paired with Mrtvi Kanal’s sensibilities on writing great melancholic, pop-infused post punk excellence. In the years to follow Grč consolidated their sinister fame with the incredible masterpiece “Sloboda narodu” (1987) – also reissued by FOAD years ago, one of the blackest and most hopeless expressions of negativity that whatever you may label as Dark, Death Rock or Post Punk has ever conceived… while Mrtvi Kanal recorded only a dozen of songs (the most included on this split) before they vanished in the mid 80ies. With a bitter approach towards themselves and the outside world, both bands captured the very essence of their contemporary times through the epic 12 songs included on this record, talking about freedom, desperation, hope and disappointment.  Taken from the original reels and mastered for vinyl at Toxic Basement Studio.  Includes a 12 page booklet with rare photos, flyers and scans of the 1983 tape. Made thanks to the friendly assistance of Dallas Records (Slovenia) and archival/editorial supervision from Guranje s litice (Croatia). Watch the trailer HERE

Solid black vinyl limited to 350 copies

AUTARKIA “Gobiernate a ti mismo” LP (F.O.A.D. 276)

Rough, ultra-crude Mexican fuzzcore punks! Formed in the late ’80s in Mexico State, AUTARKIA were mostly active from 1990 to 1994 releasing 3 tapes, one of which would become their cult full length “Punk’s al slam”, later published on CD and LP. Here’s the official reissue of their debut demo 1993 originally entitled “Sociedad autosuficiente”, recorded prior to “Punk’s al slam”. For the first time on vinyl, mastered from the band’s tapes. Absurdly raw 2-chords tupa tupa hardcore in pure latino-american tradition, recommended if you also like M.E.L.I., MASACRE 68, KAGADA DE PERRO and similar. 16 TRACKS!  Includes full colored booklet with lyrics, rare photos and flyers. Made in collaboration with Mierdas Production from Mexico. Watch the trailer HERE

..and also for this year we’re at the final round with the last 5 releases… we haven’t yet counted how many FOAD titles saw the light in 2022, we’ll talk about it in the next post, but one thing is sure: it’s certainly much more than than we expected – an unbelievable achievement for us, also considering the immense problems we’ve been dealing with for months, such as a change of warehouses, a major split & renewal of our team and a lot more. To conclude such a crazy period in style we have chosen a very special year-end selection.. for the umpteenth time we explore Japan and by now you should all know that FOAD Records + Japanese Hardcore is a guarantee, this time we’ll reaffirm it with the tryptich ACUTE, EYESCREAM and ASBESTOS , then we move on to another country very dear to us.. Mexico with an ultra-rough band that will delight aficionados of the most filthy and disastrous fuzz-punk, we are talking about AUTARKIA.. and last but not least, we set up the time machine to our beloved former Yugoslavia, with the reissue of a legendary cassette that dates back to 1983 and covers a rather unusual territory for those familiar with our label’s sounds: we’re entering a post punk area with dark/industrial rock hues, with the fantastic split between MRTVI KANAL and GRČ. Different and distant countries, genres and eras quite far from each other, but basically an important point in common: they’re all bands that we really love, they are part of our daily playlists, and therefore we are pleased to have them in our roster.

So to sum it all up, this month’s 5 vinyl outrages are:  ACUTE “Who wants war – Discography 1986-1989” 2xLP+CD, EYESCREAM “The end – Complete discography” LP,  ASBESTOS “Loud Noise Infection” LP, MRTVI KANAL / GRČ Split LP and AUTARKIA “Gobiernate a ti mismo” LP.  Please note: the scheduled release date is December 20th and as always we’ll try to be as quick as possible to ship everything before Xmas chaos breaks in, however, due to year-end postal slowdowns and congestion and the fact that we’re still missing a few inserts and booklets (that should be ready soon anyway), delivery times are unpredictable, so please be patient – don’t flood us with messages and everything will be set right. As usual we strongly recommend you to act fast if you want to catch the ltd. colored vinyl versions, they won’t last for long!

More in detail:

ACUTE “Who wants war – Discography 1986-1989” 2xLP+CD (F.O.A.D. 277)

Another obscure Japanese Hardcore gem from the past, rescued and brought back to life in a top quality edition.. It’s no secret that the FOAD team are totally crazy for Hokkaido area punk, you saw it with previous works such as Human Gas, Stali nism, Napalm, Chinpira, Shot Gun…  Hailing from Sapporo, Hokkaido, ACUTE are only known to diehard HC maniacs for their killer tracks on the hard to find “Nothing action nothing have” v.a. tape (1989). This anthology compiles their complete recordings 1986-1989 adding as bonus a CD with never-heard-before recordings from the “Nothing action, nothing have” release show at Bessie Hall, Sapporo where they shared the stage with legends such as Slang, F.U.P. and Satanic Hell Slaughter.  44 TRACKS showing the band’s evolution from their early distorted punk approach influenced by UK82 classics (Chaos UK, Disorder) to the shredding fast Japancore thrash assault of their latter phase. Freshly ripped from the band’s tapes and mastered for vinyl at Toxic Basement Studio. Gatefold jacket + two booklets (total 24 pages) including flyers, photos, lyrics as well as all the original artworks and leaflets showing their strong anti-war stance and socially engaged hardcore attitude.  Watch the trailer HERE

SORE THROAT “Starving wolves stand & fight” LP (F.O.A.D. 272)

The return of UK’s horrendous noise/hardcore disgrace after more than 3 decades! Back with a bang after a 33-year silence to provide an antidote to the sheeplike compliance of reactionary “revolutionaries” crying “not in my name” while simultaneously doing as their glorious leaders dictate, SORE THROAT has downed tools, picked up their instruments again, and decided to start a fight with every one of the suckers who got sucked in to the narrative. Written and recorded in one afternoon and delivering 21 brand new high velocity caustic hardcore attacks (and 1 long experimental toe tapper), “STARVING WOLVES STAND & FIGHT” is pressed on glorious 12 inches of non-vegan vinyl (Soon to be outlawed by Supreme leader Schwab) and comes with a full colour poster made from a tree. Better to be deafened by noise, than blinded by lies! Watch the trailer HERE

SORE THROAT “Never mind the napalm” Gatefold LP (F.O.A.D. 274)

..their classic third album back on vinyl after more than 3 decades in a restyled expanded version with extra contents! 81 tracks of system smashing, horrendous aural butchery from the undisputed lords of the most deafening cyder-wrecked noisecore punk ever conceived on British soil. Just like the original version, it starts off with the ultra-legendary “Death to capitalist Hardcore” 45 song EP (1988) and continues with 2 sessions recorded in 1989 showing them combine short detonating bursts with some solid HC ragers devoted to the Discharge/early Scandicore formula and also inevitably reminescent of DOOM, with whom ST shared 2 members. This special edition also adds their “Noise annoys” Demo 1988 and rare live tracks from 1987. Comes in a thick gatefold jacket with a 12″x12″ four page insert featuring extensive liner notes by Rich Militia. Watch the trailer HERE

After their debut smasher “Grind surgical shrine” and a few demos, singles and split releases, here’s the definitive consecration of this new grind revelation from Kanda, Tokyo! 13 tracks of punishing fierce grindcore combined with Japanese tribal/experimental breakdowns and the use of ancient traditional instruments, creating a unique psychotic sound all of its own. Founding guitarist/singer Tomoki works as a general thoracic surgeon and donated his own blood for the cover art of this album!! FOR THE FIRST TIME ON VINYL, with a special blood-drenched packaging including OBI strip (with a quote written by Ishiya Death Side/Forward), foldout insert and PVC sticker. Recommended if you also like Unholy Grave, Excreteass, Terrorizer and Macabre. Watch the trailer HERE

PUTREFACTION SETS IN “Repugnant inception of decomposing paroxysm” LP (F.O.A.D. 273)

Debut full length of this old school pathological gore/grind surgeon squad formed by an international all star line-up of grindcore veterans!

if you enjoyed FOAD’s previous foray into forensic gore territories with the Sick Sinus Syndrome LP released some time ago, this one will make your day because it’s equally insane and rotten-to-the-core, enhanced by a pulpy, old fashioned production capturing the true essence and morbosity of the genre.  14 tracks of putrefactive gory grind in pure late 80’s to early 90’s tradition, for fans of early Carcass, Dead Infection and Regurgitate!!Comes with lyrics insert and A2 poster. FEAR OF GOD “s/t 21 song EP” Tape  (F.O.A.D. on tape #23)

Almost 35 years ago this milestone of sheer brutality was originally released on 7″ by Temple Of Love Records and now it’s back in stock for the first time on cassette tape, limited to 100 pieces. Call it Noisecore, Grind, whatthefuckcore..  this 21 track destroyer still stands as one of the best records ever conceived in the history of extreme music. Peak brutality – still unmatched.   “This 21-track EP is essential in whatever form you stumble across it. The short-lived (1986-1988), much hyped and oft-bootlegged Swiss outfit, as enigmatic and distant as the cold, dissonant bursts imprisoned on this EP, blended early Napalm Death, Swans and something indescribable of their own to create an achingly raw and wordless primal scream” (Terrorizer Mag, UK – “Essential Grindcore albums – Europe”).  Since the original vinyl press was on clear wax, this cassette is clear too, and it comes with a foldout 4 panel jcard printed on both sides with lyrics and original art. Watch the trailer HERE
